Sound familiar?

The laptop problems people bring us every single week

Most of the people who walk through our door have been putting up with a problem for longer than they should — because they weren't sure if it was worth fixing, or weren't sure who to trust.

Here are the faults we see constantly. If yours sounds like one of these, you're in the right place.

"My screen cracked — I didn't even drop it hard."A knock on a bag, a slip off a desk. Screens are fragile. We replace cracked, flickering, dead and dim screens across most laptop brands.
"The lid feels loose and I heard a crack when I opened it."That crack is your hinge starting to fail — and it'll get worse fast. A broken hinge can rip internal cables and crack the screen. We repair hinges before the damage spreads.
"It won't charge unless I hold the cable at a weird angle."Worn charging ports and DC jack faults are one of our most common jobs. Usually a clean fix — no need to throw the whole laptop away.
"It takes 10 minutes to open Chrome."A failing hard drive or outdated storage is usually the culprit. An SSD upgrade can make a 5-year-old laptop feel brand new — often for less than $200.
"Battery lasts 20 minutes then dies."Batteries degrade — especially after 2–3 years of daily use. We assess and replace failing or swollen batteries before they become a safety issue.
"Some keys stopped working after I spilled a drink."Liquid damage and dead keys are fixable in most cases. We clean, assess and replace keyboards — including when the whole keyboard deck needs replacing.

Honest advice

We'll tell you if it's not worth fixing

Not every laptop is worth repairing. If yours is too old, the parts aren't available, or the repair cost doesn't stack up against what the machine is worth — we'll say so clearly, before we charge you anything.

What we won't do is quote you $400 on a laptop worth $200. Or replace parts that don't need replacing. Or tell you it's fixed when it isn't.

Repair — when it makes financial and practical sense
Upgrade — SSD, memory or battery that gives real performance gain
Replace — when the honest answer is that a new device makes more sense

Simple repair advice

We explain it before we touch it

We look over the fault, tell you what's wrong in plain language, give you a quote, and wait for your go-ahead. No work starts without your approval. No surprises on the invoice.

A broken screen, a bad hinge, a weak battery or slow storage can often be fixed for less than people expect — and far less than replacing the whole machine.

Questions

Things people usually ask us

My hinge cracked but the screen still works — do I need to fix it now?

Yes — sooner rather than later. A cracking hinge puts stress on the internal display cables every time you open the lid. Left alone, a hinge fault can cause the screen to fail or the casing to split further. A hinge repair now is almost always cheaper than a hinge repair plus a screen replacement later.

Is it worth replacing the screen on a 4-year-old laptop?

Usually yes, if the rest of the laptop is running well. A screen replacement extends the life of the machine significantly and is often a fraction of the cost of a new device. We'll let you know if the laptop's age or condition makes repair less worthwhile — before you spend anything.

Can you recover data from a laptop that won't turn on?

Often yes. Whether it's a failed hard drive, a motherboard fault or a power issue, we can frequently access and recover data even when the laptop itself won't boot. Bring it in and we'll assess what's possible.

How much does an SSD upgrade cost and will it actually make a difference?

An SSD upgrade typically costs $150–$280 depending on the laptop and storage size. The difference is significant — boot times drop from minutes to seconds, and general performance improves dramatically. It's the single best upgrade for most older laptops and usually more cost-effective than buying a new machine.

My laptop won't charge unless I wiggle the cable. What's wrong?

That's a classic sign of a worn charging port or DC jack — the internal connection has loosened over time. It's a common fault we fix regularly. Left alone, it usually gets worse until the laptop won't charge at all. Most charging port repairs are straightforward and reasonably priced.

Do you repair business laptops and can you handle multiple machines?

Yes. We work with local businesses, offices, trades and warehouses around Carrum Downs and the Frankston area. If you have multiple machines needing assessment or repair, give us a call and we'll work out the best way to manage it.

What if my laptop isn't worth repairing?

We'll tell you honestly. If the repair cost doesn't make sense for the age or value of the device, we'd rather say so than take your money on a repair that doesn't add up. We can also help you understand what your options are for replacement if that's the better path.

Not sure if your laptop is worth fixing?

Bring it in. We'll look at it, tell you what's wrong, and give you an honest answer — no obligation.
